After
the recent premiere of Tokyo Mew
Mew's US alter-ego,
Mew Mew Power, I felt
the need to wash the memory from my mind with some of the original
article. There's something particularly ironic about the
timing: while MMP's Zoey is having to deal with Mark finding out she's
a Mew Mew, TMM's Ichigo is having the same problem with Aoyama-kun
now. The difference? In MMP, it's episode
12. Here in Tokyo, it's episode 38...
{mos_smf_discuss:Mew Mew Reviews}
38 - Miracle of the Holy Night - No Secrets Anymore
Ichigo's Christmas goes from bad to worse, as Kisshu, Tart & Pie
intervene with another scheme to destroy humanity - this time, through
using the Mew Mew's own powers. While fending off an attack,
Pudding's inferno ring absorbs some Mew Aqua, and the combination of
the two is explosive on a scale that would make an atomic bomb look
feeble, unless the Mew Mews can stop it reaching critical point.
When the Mews run into trouble, the Blue Knight appears again to help
out. To make Ichigo's day even worse, though, Aoyama is injured
after getting caught in the aftermath of the battle...
39 - The Stolen Dream - Sweet Trap of the Lavender
It's New Year, and while Ichigo's out making the most of the special
time of year with Aoyama, the aliens have come up the a new type of
Chimera Animal - one that has the ability to manipulate dreams.
With Kisshu still out of action with injuries he picked up in his last
battle with the Mew Mews, Pai & Tart decide that Ichigo would make
a good guinea-pig for their new creation. With the Mew Mews
unable to find a way to beat their new foe, 'help' comes from an
unexpected direction, which Kisshu tries to take on Ichigo & breaks
the Chimera Animal's power...
I think it's safe to say that Tokyo Mew Mew is beginning
to ramp up towards it's 'explosive finale'. These episodes cover
a lot of ground - Ichigo's secret is out, the Mew Mews now know the
reason behind the aliens' interest in removing humanity from the Earth,
and Kisshu's feelings from Ichigo are becoming more confused &
potentially dangerous. Put it all together, and you get two
episodes that it's hard to tear yourself away from. Somehow I
don't think it'll be long before I watch another batch of episodes...
After the disappointment of how Mew Mew Power has turned
out (even if it does seem to be improving), getting back to TMM reminds
me just how much fun it is to watch. Here's hoping it eventually
gets the uncut treatment... |
